Pirate Shellfish, Wellfleet, Cape Cod

While the shellfish this company offers might not be a theme for a children's party, the pirate clothing they offer is.  The company states it was  originally formed at the Wellfleet Oyster Festival, which is a two day event held every fall in Wellfleet.  The Wellfleet Oyster Festival draws thousands of people each year and is always a fun time for all. Look for it coming this October 18th and 19th.

Test your Melody Tent Knowledge

How long have you lived on or visited Cape Cod? Most of you have heard of the Melody Tent located in downtown Hyannis. The Cape has always been known for it's beaches , but it is also well known for the small summer playhouses and of course the Melody Tent. Locals always loved to see the big tent going up as it is always a sure sign that summer is right around the corner. The memories we have of the many great entertainers we've seen there are intertwined with the warm summer nights and the feeling that all is well in the world.

The Catholic Church use to have summer masses there, the "Chowdah Fest" is now an annual event and the special Children Shows are always an attraction, but you won't find any of that on the quiz.

Below is an article for those who have been around for a while and those who just have interest in the history of the Melody Tent. I found this quiz...see how you do.

Cape Cod makes a perfect ‘staycation’ - Harwich, MA - Harwich Oracle

Cape codders have been doing the "staycation"  every summer as long as I lived here (I am a native), but we never called it that. We just wouldn't go over the bridge unless we had to during the summer. Why would we??? We already had it all! We didn't never needed an excuse or a coined phrase to stay. Beaches, boating, kayaking, good old fashion cape cod clambakes, a treasure trove of restaurants offering the best seafood (as well as some of the freshest) around...all a good reason to stay home with family and friends. Our cookout or barbeque may well include fresh steamers from Barnstable Harbor, lobsters or fish fresh off the boats at the Ocean Street docks. Always fun and always delicious! Cape Codders have been doing staycations for years. We didn't need high gas prices to keep us here.

Lunch Overlooking Hyannis Harbor And The Ocean Street Docks

I feel like I'm on vacation! My husband and I went to lunch at Spankys located at the Ocean Street Docks. We had to search for parking which is a usual occurrence in the summer as there is so much going on there. I finally found a spot after circling for a while.

The outside patio at Spankys was filled as usual so we sat at the bar which has great views of all that is going on on the harbor front.

Tourists were coming in looking for a spot as all the tables were taken outside. The place was packed inside and out. Suddenly the sunny exterior clouded over and there were loud claps of thunder. The beautiful sunny day suddenly turned stormy catching everyone outside by surprised with a quick summer downpour. Lunches were soaked as were the people. The patio was now cleared with everyone hovering for cover except us...we were just observers of the chaos enjoying our lunch and the view.

The sun came out as we left. A cooler air prevailed as we walked along the docks watching the charter boats who just had just come in with their catch and were hosing down their boats and their fish. We then walked through the artist shanties. They were now starting to set out their wares again although some were closed still.

We then meandered home along the shore route taking in the beautiful ocean beaches as we drove. Taking the time to enjoy all the Cape has to offer is something we locals sometimes forget to do, but today we didn't.

Another Beautiful Day In Paradise!

Cape Cod Online update says there is no traffic going off Cape. Why would there be! The day is perfect for the beach, waterside or outdoor dining and shopping...it is gorgeous! Comfortable, sunny and a little breezy...something for everyone.

I am going to head to the beach for an hour or so and finish my work later. I'm always a cell phone call away if anyone needs me....hopefully it will wait until tomorrow.

I have to tell you the beach I go to is virtually empty...no crowds, lots of sandy space, gorgeous Nantucket Sound.....the best kept secret really! I'd tell you, but being the old Cape Codder that I am, I relish the quiet...reminds me when I was a kid!

Have a great day!
